It’s safe to say Kevin Durant had a blast competing with the Golden State Warriors in his prime.
During his first two years with the organization, the former Oklahoma City Thunder superstar forward won back-to-back titles and NBA Finals MVP awards.
The organization was primed to three-peat during the 2018-19 campaign, but unfortunate injuries allowed the Toronto Raptors to defeat the Dubs in a six-game NBA Finals series.
When asked if things had turned out differently for Durant and the Warriors if they had been at full strength, Durant provided an intriguing take on X/Twitter.
“Like I say, you can create your own world when you start talking hypotheticals,” Durant wrote.
“What you think may have happened probably isn’t what I would think. That's why I say, curate your experience the way you want. These all time list and what-ifs are totally personal and intimate. That’s what makes being a fan fun nowadays.”

For clarity, Durant suffered an Achilles tendon injury (following a calf strain diagnosis), and Klay Thompson suffered a torn ACL.
Playing the ‘what if’ game can be complicated. With several pivotal moments in a game or playoff series to choose from, it won’t be easy for individuals to narrow their focus.
Like Durant stated, though, it does make the overall playing and/or experience more enjoyable.
Some may immediately blame injuries for Golden State’s 2019 postseason shortcomings, while Durant may point to a separate issue that plagued the Stephen Curry-led franchise.
Durant, who recently missed the postseason with the Phoenix Suns, has been involved in hypothetical trade scenarios that would send him back to the Bay for his second stint.
The 15-time All-Star was against the idea during the 2024-25 season.
However, after being reminded of the disappointing way his tenure with the Warriors ended, he may feel motivated to give it another try this summer.
