The Detroit Pistons are in a great place. They have a young roster that has already gotten some real playoff experience. Not to mention, they have a 23-year-old superstar who looks like he is worth building the franchise around. Still, that doesn’t mean Pistons trade rumors won’t surface during the NBA offseason.

One Pistons rumor that probably won’t happen but would be fascinating is a Pistons trade idea proposed by Andy Bailey of Bleacher Report.

Bailey’s proposed trade looks like this:

Tobias Harris, Jaden Ivey, Ausar Thompson, Jalen Duren, a 2026 first-round pick, a 2028 first-round pick, a 2030 first-round pick, and a 2032 first-round pick for Giannis Antetokounmpo.

This Pistons-Giannis trade idea is about as bold as it gets. The Pistons would essentially be mortgaging their entire future for the chance at pairing Cade Cunningham with Giannis.

Although that pairing has the possibility of being extremely dangerous, it isn’t worth trading Thompson, Duren, and all those picks for.

The Pistons’ franchise is already in a great position. They have a ton of young pieces, draft picks, and a superstar under team control. This package guts them of everything except Cunningham.

If this proposed Pistons-Giannis trade wouldn’t lead them to a championship before Giannis starts to decline, they may have totally ruined their team for the present and the future.

That’s why we don’t love this Pistons trade idea.

The Pistons should let their young core continue to grow. Thompson could become a star in his own right. Ivey is on his way to becoming a near 20-point-per-game scorer. And above all, they have control of their draft picks, which could help them get additional support down the line.

The team has something going for them, and they shouldn’t let Pistons trade rumors ruin their organic growth.
