The Detroit Pistons recently announced an interesting hire that’s set to expand the team’s global reach and audience.

On Monday, the Pistons announced they are hiring rapper Big Sean as Creative Director of Global Experience.

Alicia Jeffreys, the Pistons’ EVP and Chief Marketing Officer, said Sean will help with product design, future community engagement and global fan development efforts.

“Big Sean’s influence reaches far beyond music – he’s a global creative visionary who already brings Detroit wherever he goes,” Jeffreys said. “As Creative Director of Global Experience he brings authenticity, reach and imagination to the Pistons brand.”

Sean, whose real name is Sean Michael Leonard Anderson, is a Detroit native who burst onto the scene in 2011 with the album Finally Famous. He cemented himself as a world-renowned artist in 2015 with his Dark Sky Paradise album. The Album reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200. The certified platinum album contained hits like “Blessings” and “Play No Games.”

Along with hiring Sean, the Pistons announced the creation of the “Creatives Across Continents” program. It’s a brand-focused initiative that “invites designers, artists and cultural tastemakers across the globe to produce original work inspired by Detroit Basketball.”

“‘Creatives Across Continents’ is the next step in introducing Detroit Basketball to the world, and we couldn’t imagine a better partner to lead that vision," Jeffreys said.

Sean hasn’t been shy about his affinity for the Pistons over the years. The team sponsored his “Big Sean & Friends: A Night with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra” concert last summer. He created the Sean Anderson Foundation in 2012, which aims to help underprivileged families in the Detroit area.
