With training camp around the corner, Russell Westbrook remains unsigned after declining his player option with the Denver Nuggets in June.

The nine-time All-Star was productive during his age-36 season with Denver. He averaged 13.3 points, 6.1 assists, 4.9 rebounds and 1.4 steals across 27.9 minutes per game in 75 regular-season appearances. The former MVP showed he can still play a key role for a playoff-caliber team, and it wouldn't be surprising to see him land a new deal in the near future.

Westbrook has been linked to several teams this offseason. Still, the California native has yet to find a new home entering his 18th season in the league.

Russell Westbrook tied to Kings in free agency

Nathaniel Holloway of Athlon Sports believes the Kings may be an intriguing fit for Westbrook as they attempt to turn the team around after trading De’Aaron Fox to the San Antonio Spurs last season.

“The Kings have been linked to Russell Westbrook for most of the offseason as they have become the likely landing spot for the veteran guard,” he wrote. “The former NBA MVP would give Sacramento a much-needed backup point guard behind [Dennis] Schroder who would likely have a large role off the bench.”

After trading Fox, many around the league suspected the Kings would lean toward a rebuild. However, Domantas Sabonis, Zach LaVine, DeMar DeRozan and Malik Monk all remain on the squad.

The Kings have missed the postseason in two consecutive seasons, so expectations aren't exactly high in the 2025-26 campaign. While Westbrook wouldn't be expected to compete for his first NBA title in Sacramento, he'd likely be able to maintain a significant role in the twilight of his career.
