With the NBA offseason nearing its close, teams are finalizing their rosters for the 2025-26 season.
After missing the playoffs in 2024-25 while trading away franchise star De'Aaron Fox back in February, the Sacramento Kings are looking to continue to build off of players like DeMar DeRozan, Zach LaVine, and Domantas Sabonis.
With this being said, the Kings are still looking for certain pieces to build the roster with role players. Reports suggest that Sacramento may be looking to part ways with one of its top scorers from last season to sign former NBA MVP Russell Westbrook.
Kings could move Malik Monk to add Russell Westbrook
As the Kings continue to make roster moves before the 2025-26 season, they have reportedly been looking to trade away guard Malik Monk to clear up roster space to sign unrestricted free agent Russell Westbrook.
"The Kings have been trying to trade Monk to open up a spot for Russell Westbrook, who is an unrestricted free agent. Sacramento wants to sign Westbrook and bring the former NBA MVP off the bench as its sixth man behind Dennis Schroder," wrote Ashish Mathur of Dallas Hoops Journal.
Monk, 27, contributes a large dent to the Kings' salary cap, set to earn almost $18.8 million next season. He was one of Sacramento's top scorers last season, averaging 17.2 points to go along with 3.8 rebounds and 5.6 assists in 31.6 minutes a game.
