Dallas Mavericks forward Anthony Davis turned heads when he arrived for training camp at Simon Fraser University campus. The former NBA champion seemed to have put on weight ahead of the 2025-26 NBA season.

Davis was measured to be 268 pounds, which is 15 more than his weight from last season. While there was immediate concern among fans, Davis assured them that it was a deliberate attempt with a big picture in sight.

"I feel good," Davis said via Tim McMahon. "I kind of almost going into every season, because I put on so much weight over the summer, then by the time November comes, I'm usually like 255, 258. I never want to come in at my playing weight, because then I lose weight during the season and then I'm too small. I lose about 10 to 12 pounds very quickly. During camp, I already lost five pounds - all the running and playing. So I'm never concerned about that. I feel great. I'm moving great. I feel good."

Anthony Davis's eye underwent surgery

This offseason, Anthony Davis underwent surgery to repair a detached retina in his right eye. He has been cleared for training camp and is participating fully. However, in order to protect his eye, he will have to wear protective eyewear like goggles for the rest of his NBA career.

After the surgery, Davis said he uses drops due to occasional redness. But apart from that his eyesight is perfectly clear.

"Eye feels great. The redness, still [have] these drops that I have to put in my eye which which causes a little redness, but vision is back. Ready to go," Davis said.

Anthony Davis will be tasked to lead a crowded frontcourt with players like Cooper Flagg, P.J. Washington, and Dereck Lively. The goal is to bring an NBA championship back to Dallas, and with positive updates coming out of Kyrie Irving's recovery, the Mavericks will be the team to watch out for next season.
