The Chicago Bulls just made their biggest move of the offseason, and it could soon lead to some more movement across the league.
This summer was quite a slow-moving one for the Bulls after being eliminated in the play-in tournament for the third straight year. While the team certainly entered the offseason wanting to make some changes and potentially have a chance to kickstart the rebuild, Josh Giddey’s free agency held things up for a while.
However, the Bulls recently agreed to a four-year, $100 million deal with the Australian point guard, finally ending the saga that plagued the franchise for most of the summer. While Giddey certainly held up some of Chicago’s offseason plans, he was far from the only restricted free agent who has been at the center of attention this summer.
Time for a Kuminga deal?
After news of Giddey’s extension broke, attention around the league turned to another high-profile free agent in Jonathan Kuminga. The Golden State Warriors have been in a similar situation to the Bulls this summer, and FanSided’s Peter O’Keefe believes Giddey’s new deal could be the catalyst for a move in the Bay Area.
In a recent article, O’Keefe urged the Warriors to compromise with Kuminga and give him a full guarantee on the two-year, $45 million deal that has been on the table. Although Kuminga wouldn’t be getting the deal he was wanting, Giddey had to settle short of his $30 million per year demand, too.
Although the Bulls certainly made this move with only themselves in mind, they might have unintentionally helped out another team across the country.
