The Nets are far from a playoff team this season, and continue to navigate through a rebuild phase that has been focused on a lot of the rookies and young talent the Nets have brought in over the last couple of years.
Believe it or not, Cam Thomas has been with the Nets for a long time in comparison to most of his teammates, yet he could be on his way out very soon.
Will the Nets trade Cam Thomas?
Last summer, Thomas became a restricted free agent after his rookie contract expired.
It turned out to be a rough offseason for RFAs available in the market, as there wasn't a lot of demand for those types of players, despite some quality names being available.

No teams took a shot at Thomas, so the Nets decided to give him a one-year qualifying-offer worth $6 million, which he took, making him an UFA this summer.
Thomas will have a lot more control as an UFA as opposed to a RFA.
Brian Lewis of the New York Post analyzed the situation, saying, "After their failed contract negotiations this past summer, forget the honeymoon being over. Every sign is pointing toward divorce."
If the Nets want to get any value in return from Thomas, it would make sense to trade him ahead of the deadline, as his role in the rotation has shrunk drastically recently.

If they don't trade him, he'll likely walk in free agency and sign with the team that gives him the most appealing offer, which, as of now, the Nets don't appear to be that team.
Thomas' scoring for a player on a cheap/expiring contract could be appealing to contenders/playoff teams, so the Nets front office might get phone calls showing interest in Thomas, who averaged 24.0 points last season.
Thomas' weaknesses on defense/other areas and his injury history have likely hindered his value to this point, which is why we haven't seen a lot of demand for him, but there's always a chance that changes.
