The Brooklyn Nets, in the midst of another rebuilding season, are starting to shop their players as we inch closer to the NBA's early February trade deadline.
According to NBA insider Jake Fischer, Brooklyn is "willing to listen to pitches on the bulk of their veteran players," and that includes their current leading scorer, Michael Porter Jr.
Fischer also reported that Brooklyn is "remaining eager, league sources say, to play facilitator in multi-team trade constructs that set them up to turn unused salary cap space from the summer into draft capital."
Nets willing to talk trade with any and all veterans on their roster
While the Nets are likely willing to listen to any and all offers on players like Cam Thomas, Nic Claxton, and Ziaire Williams, a Porter Jr. Trade would arguably be the most complicated of all.
The former NBA champion came over in an offseason trade with the Denver Nuggets, who were looking to dump his five-year, $179.3 million max extension for Cam Thomas' smaller contract. Brooklyn received a 2032 first-round pick in the deal.
While Porter Jr. Is currently putting up career highs in points, rebounds, and assists with 25.6, 7.4, and 3.3, respectively, his contract makes him a complex trade chip.
He's proven he can be a contributor on a championship team, as evidenced by the Nuggets' 2023 title run, but whoever trades for him is on the hook for two more years and $80 million.
We'll have to wait and see if any team gets desperate enough for Porter Jr.'s services.
