The Brooklyn Nets' Cam Thomas is widely known as an explosive scorer. He is one of the most naturally talented offensive players in the league, as teams can always rely on him to score buckets. Of course, this might appear that he's a one-dimensional player, but scoring plenty of points should never be a big negative.
As one of the best scorers in NBA history, Houston Rockets forward Kevin Durant has carved out a superb career for himself. While Thomas might never be the go-to guy like Durant, he can still have a fantastic career. Durant certainly thinks so, considering he saw Thomas close up during their time as teammates in Brooklyn.
Durant has high expectations for Thomas
After returning on December 27 from a lengthy spell on the sidelines, Thomas has been superb with his scoring. Despite playing under a minutes restriction, Thomas is scoring 21.3 points per game since coming back to the Nets rotation.
He is one of the most impressive scorers in the league because he can do it all three levels. Thomas is also one of the most talented shot creators in the league, as he can get a shot off even when elite defenders are guarding him. Since Durant is a player similar to that, he appreciates Thomas' talent, and sees the 24-year-old's potential in the long run.

Considering Durant has played in the league for almost two decades, he knows what it takes to be a star in the NBA. Thomas is a player he has been high on for a long time, considering he was there when the 24-year-old debuted.
"I feel like Cam has a bright future. It just takes somebody to believe in his talent and his skill. Scorers and guys that score the basketball at a high rate, they get taken for granted in this league a bit. We’re so used to loving defenders and playmakers and guys that can be connectors, sometimes scorers get taken for granted," Durant said after the Rockets' win over the Nets.
Durant also pointed out that Thomas deserves a shot from the Nets or any other team. Thomas was involved in a lengthy contract saga in the 2025 offseason, which has led to some people devaluing him in contract talks.
A team putting trust in Thomas could be crucial for the team moving forward. That could be the Nets, who are already familiar with him. However, Durant is arguing that other teams should take a chance on Thomas because he is a special talent who will be around for a long time.
