The popular Netflix show Stranger Things takes place in the 1980s in Hawkins, Indiana.
And on social media this week, that timeline and that location has led to a discussion about Boston Celtics legend Larry Bird.
Why is that? Because Bird is from French Lick, Indiana. He was called the "Hick from French Lick." He went to Indiana University, left, then took Indiana State to the national title game before becoming one of the greatest basketball players ever with the Celtics.
Someone in Hawkins must've been a big Bird fan, right?
But his name never comes up.

And while this is mostly in jest, this social media post about the matter is brilliant:
"Stranger Things takes place in the 80s and I understand there’s a lot of s— going down in Hawkins but I find it unrealistic that not a single person has talked about Larry Bird," @totalfratmove tweeted. "I’m not even asking for an extensive discussion, just someone to say 'damn, Bird put up 42 on the Knicks last night.'

That'd be an incredible line to come up in passing.
Instead, the world beyond Hawkins isn't thought of much. To be fair, the world in Hawkins is often crumbling at the literal seams, so maybe it's OK that Bird wasn't on anyone's minds.
But it likely would've been a good distraction to watch or talk about Larry Legend a little bit.
