Before the Boston Celtics secured a championship last year, the previous time they reached the NBA mountaintop was back in 2008. Years removed from this notable feat, one member of that team reminisced about the journey on social media.
Right now, the Indiana Pacers and OKC Thunder are battling it out to see who will be crowned champion. As the series rages on, one former player took to social media to give a shoutout to when he was able to hoist the Larry O'Brien trophy.
Earlier this week, Kendrick Perkins posted a throwback photo of himself on X (formerly Twitter). It featured him and the rest of the Celtics' starting lineup in 2008 after they took down Kobe Bryant and the LA Lakers in the NBA Finals.
Can’t believe on this day 17 years ago I became a NBA Champion!!! 🤞🏾🥹 pic.twitter.com/fD6lI6Xi80

Perkins was the finishing piece of a starting unit that featured four Hall of Fame talents. He anchored the frontcourt alongside Kevin Garnett while also being flanked by Rajon Rondo, Ray Allen, and Paul Pierce.
After being drafted in the first round of the 2003 draft, Perkins spent the first seven-and-a-half years of his career with the Celtics. The '08 campaign was by far the most memorable due to it ending with a championship. That season, Perkins averaged 6.9 PPG, 6.1 RPG, and 1.5 BPG.
Following his tenure in Boston, Perkins had stints with the Thunder, Cleveland Cavaliers, and New Orleans Pelicans. Upon retiring as a player in 2018, the longtime center has transitioned into a career as an NBA analyst on TV for ESPN.
