The Boston Celtics have already made two significant trades this offseason, and they may not be done picking up calls from opposing teams just yet.
While the Celtics have publicly indicated they don’t intend to move on from Jaylen Brown this summer, Boston could still receive an offer that’s too good to pass up for the four-time All-Star.
Boston has already made several moves to maneuver under the second apron, trading away Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis. However, the front office may not be done making moves amid a retooling phase, as the team awaits the return of Jayson Tatum, who sustained a torn right Achilles tendon in the club’s Eastern Conference semifinals loss to the Knicks.
NBA insider Zach Lowe of The Ringer views a Brown trade as unlikely, but noted he wouldn’t rule it out — especially if a substantial offer comes along.
“I would bet on both of them [Brown and Derrick White] being on the Celtics next year, but I’m not slamming the door shut,” Lowe said.
Lowe mentioned the Kings as a potential suitor who could go for broke and offer a massive package for Brown, likely including several picks and pick swaps.
The Celtics have already traded away Holiday and Porzingis from their 2024 championship roster, with Luke Kornet and Al Horford now set to enter unrestricted free agency. If the club wants to retool around Tatum and get younger through the draft in the coming years, trading Brown remains a realistic path to acquiring more long-term assets.
Brown has spent nine seasons with Boston, posting career averages of 19.1 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.7 assists across 31.1 minutes per game. He’s coming off another solid campaign in 2024-25, during which he averaged 22.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.2 steals per game in 63 regular-season appearances.
