This bold Hawks trade idea rids team of controversial star for players, picks
The Atlanta Hawks probably want to make some changes. They’ve shown that a Trae Young-led team isn’t good enough to contend in the East. Recently, Hawks trade rumors indicate that the team may be more willing than ever to trade Trae Young. We fired up the NBA trade machine to see if we could land the Hawks a decent return package for getting rid of their franchise star.
Our Hawks trade machine idea looks like this:
Sacramento Kings Receive: Trae Young
Hawks Receive: DeMar DeRozan, Jonas Valanciunas, and Keon Ellis, two first-round picks
This Hawks trade idea could help lead the team into the future. They would be picking up a solid expiring contract in DeRozan. A nice young player in Keon Ellis. And multiple first-round picks.
Some Hawks rumors believe the team is ready to build around Jalen Johnson and Zaccharie Risacher, moving towards a more positionless future. Adding Keon Ellis to that equation next to Dyson Daniels would make them a formidable defensive squad.
DeRozan would be a great veteran for Risacher and Johnson to learn from as well.
The Sacramento picks would obviously be the juiciest part of this trade. The Kings don’t have a great track record of making the playoffs, making these picks potentially very valuable in the future.
With this Hawks trade idea the Hawks could see what their young players can do without Young hogging the offensive load. They’d have the flexibility to make future trades with Sacramento’s picks, or they could hold onto them and continue to build with young players through the draft.

Although it may hurt in the short term, trading Trae Young is the best move for the Hawks. They gave it a try, giving him the keys to the franchise, and although he didn’t run them into the ground, it felt like a lot of driving around in circles.
This Hawks trade idea at least will give them a direction.
