For anyone who's asking "What time is the NASCAR race today?" the answer is that it's earlier than NASCAR's preferred window for races.

The Cup Series is at Indianapolis Motor Speedway this weekend, but it's racing on the famed track's road course in the Verizon 200 at The Brickyard. The 82-lap event is scheduled for an early afternoon start. This will be the first Cup Series race on the Indy road course.

NASCAR is holding the majority of its 2021 Cup Series races in the daytime; the next night race will be Aug. 28, the regular-season finale at Daytona.

What time does the NASCAR race start today?

The green flag for Sunday's NASCAR Cup Series race on Indianapolis Motor Speedway's 2.439-mile road course is scheduled to drop at 1:13 p.m. ET.

Weather conditions should be ideal. The National Weather Service's forecast for Sunday afternoon at the track calls for sunny skies and a high temperature near 80 degrees.

NBC's programming will begin at 12:30 p.m. with the "Countdown to Green" prerace show, followed by race coverage beginning at 1 p.m. ET. As it did last week at Watkins Glen, the network is spreading out its race announcers across the course for a "radio style" broadcast. Rick Allen and Steve Letarte will be in the booth; NASCAR radio reporter Mike Bagley will be stationed at Turn 1; Dale Earnhardt Jr. will be at Turn 7; and Jeff Burton will be at Turn 12.

Dave Burns, Marty Snider and Kelli Stavast will be the pit reporters.
