NASCAR All-Star race results: Ryan Blaney takes win after messy Texas sprint image

Caution was thrown to the wind in the 2022 NASCAR All-Star Race.

There was a lot of confusion over the format, but what was decisive was Ryan Blaney's win. Blaney crossed the start-finish line not once, but twice after a late caution extended the race. 

Blaney, understandably, was thrown off by the revelation of the caution:

While the concept was novel, the race crossed from entertaining to cumbersome. Erik Jones, Kyle Busch, Chase Elliott, Ross Chastain and Kyle Larson all hit the wall and thus lost their shot at $1 million early. Several other spins landed cars in the wall as well.

All-Star Race results

10:42 p.m. END OF RACE: Blaney takes the win after some issue with his window net. A long, long night of racing comes to an end.

10:41 p.m.: One last restart: Blaney gets a push from Austin Cindric. Hamlin and Cindric fighting for No. 2.

10:26 p.m.: Confusion at the "end" of the race: Caution flag is out just before Blaney crosses the line, with Ricky Stenhouse Jr. hitting the wall just as Blaney was about to cross. So, we'll have a few more laps to decide the winner.

10:23 p.m.: Fifteen laps to go and Ryan Blaney is holding a small 1 1/2 second lead over Austin Cindric. Denny Hamlin, Daniel Suarez and Joey Logano round out the top five.

10:10 p.m.: Seventh caution of the night: Erik Jones, the fan vote for tonight's All-Star race, hits the wall and is out of the race. 

9:59 p.m.: Stage 4 underway, and some race favorites are knocked out. 50 laps in the final stage of the race, with a million dollars on the line.

9:51 p.m. END STAGE 3: Ryan Blaney takes the Stage 3 win, followed by Daniel Suarez and Joey Logano. 

9:44 p.m.: Christopher Bell hits the wall but he's OK, recovers and heads off.

9:41 p.m.: Blaney in the lead with eight laps remaining in the stage.

9:34 p.m.: Stage 3 is underway, and William Byron takes the lead. He's going back-and-forth with Blaney.

9:24 p.m. END STAGE 2: Austin Cindric wins Stage 2, followed by Ryan Blaney and William Byron. 

9:19 p.m.: Stage 2 overtime, starting with the yellow. Austin Cindric in the lead.

9:00 p.m.: Massive wreck: Kyle Busch, Chase Elliott and Ross Chastain all combine for a big wreck, started with a Busch flat tire. 

8:59 p.m.: Five laps to go under green, and Ross Chastain, Kyle Busch and Austin Cindric are all jockeying for position at the top.

8:52 p.m.: Yellow flags: Kyle Larson hits the wall and crashes out of the race. He's up and out of his car.

8:47 p.m.: Through nine laps, Kyle Busch still sitting in first. Another 16 laps to go.

8:35 p.m. END STAGE 1: An uneventful Stage 1 sees Kyle Busch win the stage, just holding off Blaney and the rest of the field to end the first 25 laps of the All-Star race.

8:23 p.m.: We have green and we are racing in Stage 1. 25 laps to decide a stage winner.

8:13 p.m.: Ryan Blaney and Kyle Busch start on the front row for tonight's All-Star festivities. 

8:04 p.m.: National anthem being sung, flyover taking place, and we're just about set to race in Texas.

All-Star Open results

6:29 p.m.: Erik Jones makes it into the All-Star Race: Stenhouse, Buescher, Suarez and Jones make it into the All-Star Race at 8 p.m.

6:28 p.m. END STAGE 3: Daniel Suarez makes his third All-Star appearance after taking home Stage 3. One more driver will get into tonight's race, via fan vote.

6:25 p.m.: Green flag with eight laps to go. Suarez in the lead. Austin Dillon and Justin Haley on him.

6:22 p.m.: We have a Frankie Muniz sighting in the booth, which is much more exciting than anything that's happened on the track so far.

6:18 p.m.: We have a red flag for the session after the crash.

6:16 p.m.: Tyler Reddick spins and hits the wall. Harrison Burton can't avoid him, and collides with Reddick. 

6:15 p.m.: Stage 3 is a simple 10-lap sprint. Buescher leads the field.

6:07 p.m. END STAGE 2: Chris Buescher punches his ticket to the All-Star Race with the Stage 2 victory. Four laps came under caution.

6:02 p.m.: Restart comes with nine laps to go. Buescher, Suarez, Tyler Reddick, Erik Jones. Only Buescher's spot matters.

5:56 p.m.: Landon Cassill gets sideways, hits the wall on Lap 7 of Stage 2. Racing under yellow.

5:44 p.m. END STAGE 1: Ricky Stenhouse makes easy work of Stage 1, advances to the main race at 8 p.m. Two stages remain, and the fan vote.

5:39 p.m.: 10 laps in, Ricky Stenhouse leads Chris Buescher, Daniel Suarez and Austin Dillon.

5:34 p.m.: Cars on track warming up for the 50-lap, and away we go. Stage 1 of the Open race is 20 laps. Winner advances to the main race tonight.

NASCAR start time today

  • All-Star Open: 5:30 p.m. ET
  • All-Star Race: 8 p.m. ET

Sunday's NASCAR All-Star Race will begin at 8 p.m. ET, though the green flag will be expected to be waved closer to 8:15 p.m. ET. The All-Star Open starts at 5:30 p.m. ET, if fans want to get their fix for NASCAR action earlier.

How to watch 2022 NASCAR All-Star Race

Sunday's race will be carried by FS1 in the U.S., and TSN in Canada. For Canadian viewers who want to watch the Open run at 5:30 p.m., tune into TSN5.

Mike Joy will be providing lap-by-lap action with Clint Bowyer providing analysis. The Fox broadcast teams have had rotating analysts to replace Jeff Gordon, who left to join Hendrick Motorsports as an executive, and this Sunday, Larry McReynolds will be on color commentary duty.

There will be options to stream the race, as fans can find coverage on Fox Sports Go or via fuboTV, which offers a free trial.

NASCAR All-Star Race lineup at Texas

Kyle Busch won the pole for the NASCAR All-Star Race at Texas. He will be joined on the front row by Ryan Blaney, who was the runner-up in the eight-driver bracket tournament to set the first eight positions.

The six other participants in the eight-man tournament will start in the third through eighth positions in the All-Star race. The other 12 drivers in qualifying will be placed ninth through 20th in the field based on their speed during the single-lap qualifying that began the night.

Four more drivers will join the field Sunday through the All-Star Open and an online fan vote. They will start behind the 20 drivers who went through qualifying Saturday.
