One of the biggest events in motorsports, Indianapolis 500 qualifying is an event of its own.

Indy cars will compete at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, looking to get the checkered flag at The Brickyard in the 107th iteration of the Indy 500. 

Qualifying will take place over the course of Saturday and Sunday to set the 33-car starting grid ahead of the annual Memorial Day weekend race.

Indy 500 qualifying is its own beast, as drivers compete for everything from the pole position to Last Chance Qualifying.

The Indy 500 qualifying schedule will take place over the course of Saturday and Sunday on both NBC and Peacock.

Here's how the schedule shakes out for qualifying events.

How to watch Indy 500 time trials

The Indy 500 time trials will occur over the course of Saturday and Sunday.

While NBC will broadcast part of the trials, much of the qualifying will occur on Peacock.

Full Field Qualifying

  • Date: Saturday, May 20
  • Time: 2:30 - 4:30 p.m.
  • Channel/Stream: NBC/Peacock

Top 12 & Last Chance Qualifying

  • Date: Sunday, May 21
  • Time: 4 - 6 p.m.
  • Channel/Stream: NBC/Peacock

All coverage can be found on Peacock from 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. - 6 p.m. Sunday. Portions that air on NBC can also be streamed on Fubo, which offers a free trial.

How does Indy 500 qualifying work?

Indy 500 qualifying is a multistage event beginning Saturday, May 20.

During full field qualifying, positions 13-30 or 13-33 will be set based on time trials.

Sunday features the top 12 portion of qualifying.

Positions 7-12 will be determined in the streamed portion of Sunday's qualifying, while the televised part will feature Last Chance Qualifying and the Fast Six. The top six cars from earlier in the day will have time trial laps, with the fastest earning the coveted pole position.

When is the Indianapolis 500?

The Indy 500 will take place next week on Sunday, May 28.

Pre-race festivities will begin at 9 a.m. ET and continue until 12:30 p.m., when the race will commence. It will conclude around 4 p.m.
