Washington Nationals shortstop CJ Abrams

The Washington Nationals may very well have the best duo of young and promising players to potentially trade away.

Reports have already surfaced of left-hander MacKenzie Gore being on the trading block and now another young player with superstar potential is being heavily pursued.

According to Ken Rosenthal and Will Sammon of The Athletic, shortstop CJ Abrams is being aggressively pushed for by several teams. Abrams, a one-time All-Star has spent 3 1/2 of his first four years in the big leagues with Washington after being a part of the unforgettable Juan Soto trade package in 2022.

Abrams is coming off the best offensive season of his career. He slashed.257/.315/.433, all of which were career bests. He collected 59 extra-base hits as well as stealing 31 bases. His.748 OPS and 111 OPS+ were both the best of his career, just narrowly topping the.747 OPS and 109+ from last season.

The asking price for a 25-year-old with at least four years of team control will certainly be a steep one. As for teams that need help at shortstop, the Atlanta Braves, New York Yankees and Milwaukee Brewers are teams that instantly come to mind.

It will be intriguing to see if any general manager decides to fork up the prospects it will take to acquire Abrams for next season and beyond.
