The Washington Nationals have lots of young, talented players.
They’re about to add another, he of the four-legged variety.
The Nats announced that they’re promoting Bruce the Bat Dog to the big leagues.
Bruce has been building his abilities at Triple-A Rochester, but he’ll make a one-game appearance in D.C. on Saturday.
“We always knew Bruce was destined for the Big Leagues — he’s got the paws, the personality, and the hustle,” Red Wings General Manager Dan Mason said in a statement. “But what makes us even prouder is the difference he’s made off the field. From bringing smiles to fans at the ballpark to supporting our veterans through his community campaign, Bruce has truly earned this call-up. He’s going to do a doggone great job for the Nationals and their fans!”

The Red Wings put together a great call-up video for Bruce, too.

Here’s how the Nationals announced the Bruce move: “Bruce, 1 year and nine months (in people years), joins the Nationals for his first career Major League assignment after posting a 1.000 retrieving average in three appearances with the Red Wings this season.”
Baseball fans all love this skilled Golden Retriever. This shouldn’t be his last MLB appearance.
