Slugging infielder named 'perfect fit' for Blue Jays ahead of trade deadline image

The Toronto Blue Jays are on a 10-game winning streak and are one of the hottest teams in Major League Baseball.

Since going on their winning streak, Toronto is atop the AL East and will be buyers ahead of the trade deadline.

One area of need for the Blue Jays could be an upgrade at third base and a middle-of-the-order bat. With that, Blue Jays analyst Gregor Chisholm of the Toronto Star named Arizona Diamondbacks slugger Eugenio Suárez as the perfect fit.

“Eugenio Suárez would be a perfect fit if the Diamondbacks decide they can’t contend,” Chisholm wrote. “The soon-to-be free agent entered Tuesday with a .252 average, 28 homers and 74 RBIs. There would be a lot of teams interested in him at the deadline, including the rival New York Yankees, so he won’t come cheap.”

Suárez is hitting .252 with 28 home runs and 74 RBIs this season with the Diamondbacks. The 33-year-old would be a perfect middle-of-the-order bat who would make Toronto’s lineup that much better.

However, as Chisholm writes, several teams will be interested in the slugger, so it likely would cost a couple of prospects to swing the deal.

Suárez is in the final year of his seven-year, $66 million deal with the Diamondbacks. He’s a two-time MLB All-Star.
