If the Boston Red Sox were to lose Alex Bregman, there’s reason to believe the Toronto Blue Jays could be impacted by that.
The Blue Jays have shown they’re willing to go out and add players if they believe it gives them an opportunity to win a World Series.
The Red Sox are in a somewhat similar boat, but letting Bregman walk doesn’t seem to make much sense unless they have a clear backup plan for a right-handed-hitting third baseman.
From the sounds of things from Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, that may be the case. According to Feinsand, the Red Sox have been connected to Bo Bichette, which could say a lot about Bregman’s future in Boston.
“Those signings were just the appetizers for the rest of the position-player menu, because the biggest names remain available.
“Kyle Tucker, Cody Bellinger, Alex Bregman and Bo Bichette should see their markets begin to heat up, especially with few players on the trade market of their caliber... The markets for both Bregman and Bichette aren’t as defined. The Cubs, Tigers and Red Sox are believed to be among the teams pursuing Bregman, while the Blue Jays, Braves and Red Sox have been connected to Bichette,” he wrote.
Bregman is probably the better all-around player compared to Bichette. However, he’s a bit older and could also be more expensive.
If the Red Sox choose the cheaper option, they may view Bichette as the better fit.
Regardless, this situation could have an impact on the Blue Jays.
