The Toronto Blue Jays made their first move ahead of the 2025 Major League Baseball trade deadline.
The Blue Jays acquired reliever Seranthony Dominguez from the Baltimore Orioles on July 29 to help solidify the bullpen. However, even after acquiring Dominguez, ESPN MLB insider Jeff Passan reveals the Blue Jays want another reliever.
“The Blue Jays want at least one more reliever after getting Seranthony Dominguez from the Orioles,” Passan wrote.
Toronto has been linked to several high-leverage relievers like David Bednar, Ryan Hensley, and Dennis Santana, among others.

However, the Blue Jays are one of several teams looking to acquire high-leverage relievers ahead of the July 31 trade deadline.
“Considering the number of teams that desire impact relief help -- the Philadelphia Phillies, Toronto Blue Jays, Texas Rangers, Detroit Tigers, both New York teams, and the Los Angeles Dodgers -- the ones that have it are understandably holding out for a strong return,” Passan wrote.
The Blue Jays could use another late-inning reliever to join Jeff Hoffman, Yariel Rodriguez, Brendon Little, and Dominguez, especially with Yimi Garcia injured.
Dominguez, meanwhile, made his Blue Jays debut on July 29, pitching a scoreless inning against his former team. The right-hander is 2-3 with a 3.16 ERA this season and is a pending free agent.
Toronto is atop the AL East with a record of 63-46.
