George Springer's situation causes insider to put Kyle Tucker at top of Blue Jays offseason list image

The Toronto Blue Jays are looking at some long-term questions in the outfield, and Ken Rosenthal believes Kyle Tucker’s potential fit in Toronto could be a sign of what’s to eventually come.

Right now, the Jays are built to win it all, but some of their core isn’t locked up for a long time.

George Springer isn’t getting younger, and both he and Daulton Varsho will be free agents after next season. That matters, as Toronto can’t afford to be caught and lose both of them.

The Blue Jays need to be thinking about the future, and that’s where Tucker keeps coming up.

“With outfielders George Springer and Daulton Varsho both entering their free-agent years, Tucker still makes sense for the Jays as well. If there’s one thing Toronto’s lineup still requires, it’s a left-handed slugger,” Rosenthal wrote.

Tucker wouldn’t just be a short-term upgrade, as he’s a potential long-term replacement for Springer. Toronto could be willing to bring Springer back, but that answer might change depending on how Tucker’s free agency goes, and how they look next year if he were to sign.

Of course, adding someone like Tucker wouldn’t be cheap, but the fit is obvious, and the timing now makes sense.
