The Toronto Blue Jays have been one of the most active and aggressive teams so far this offseason. After a World Series appearance, the Blue Jays have committed to building a competitive roster and are spending a ton to make it work.
They've already handed out $210 million to Dylan Cease and $30 million to Cody Ponce. Now, shifting gears to the lineup, the Blue Jays have plenty of options, with Kyle Tucker and Bo Bichette the most likely players they could sign.
Former MLB GM Jim Bowden for The Athletic urged the Blue Jays to go with Bichette this winter, and hand the All-Star shortstop a reasonable $189 million contract over seven seasons.
Blue Jays urged to sign Bo Bichette to a seven-year, $189 million deal
"A Bichette reunion would allow the Blue Jays to run it back and keep the Vladimir Guerrero Jr./Bichette combination for years to come." Bowden writes. "Bichette wants to be there, and they want him there - let's get it done."
This proposed contract from Bowden would be a very reasonable one for the Blue Jays to sign Bichette, too. Instead of spending over $400 million on Tucker, Bichette could be re-signed for a lot less.
Spending only $27 million per season on Bichette isn't a small number by any means, but in re-signing Bichette on this contract, Toronto would still have plenty of money to work with if it wants to make other moves this winter.

Bichette is 27 years old and will be 28 at the start of the 2026 MLB season. Re-signing Bichette this winter is a priority for the Blue Jays, and if this deal were the one both sides agreed to, it would be a great deal for Toronto to agree to.
Coming off a.311 batting average season, his best since his abbreviated 2019 rookie season, Bichette will be a highly coveted player this winter.
Signing him to this $189 million contract proposed by Bowden would be a good deal for the Blue Jays, as it wouldn't be too expensive overall, nor too rich on a per-year basis.
Bichette returning to the Blue Jays is a likely offseason outcome, but if it were on this proposed deal, it would be a great way to add to an already active offseason for the Blue Jays.
