The Toronto Blue Jays have been missing shortstop Bo Bichette since Sept. 6, when he sprained his left knee in a collision at the plate. There's an uncertainty regarding his return timeline, with both GM Ross Atkins and manager John Schneider not giving straight answers.
In the wake of this, first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. gave a better answer as he hinted at the shortstop's potential return this postseason. Guerrero Jr. made it clear that while Bichette will miss the upcoming ALDS round, he might be back in the potential ALCS.
“I hope we win this series and he comes back for the next one,” Guerrero Jr. said Wednesday. “We miss him. He knows we miss him. This is God’s plan. Whatever God has for us, we’ve got to take.”
Meanwhile, Schneider said Bichette has started to play catch on the field, but he hasn't started running yet. Atkins said the franchise has no firm date on when Bichette will return to the squad.
What happened to Bo Bichette?
During a slide to home plate on Sept. 6, Bo Bichette suffered a sprained PCL in his left knee. This ruled him out for the regular season but a chance to return in October if recovery goes well. After taking a second opinion, it was found that no structural damage or surgery is needed.
In the latest update, Bichette has yet to be cleared to run. Bichette's status for the ALDS will depend on his recovery. Even if Bichette returns it will be likely as a designated hitter in the lineup.
