Blue Jays sign slugger who once hit 31 HR in an MLB season image

The Toronto Blue Jays have made big moves already this offseason in free agency, and they might have more to come.

On Sunday, they made a little move, but it's an exciting one in its own way.

According to MLB insider Mike Rodriguez, the Blue Jays have signed Eloy Jimenez to a minor league contract. It comes with an invite to big league spring training.

Jimenez is still just 29 years old.

He was a top prospect for the Chicago White Sox, and as a rookie in 2019, he slugged 31 home runs in just 122 games.

He hit 14 homers in the COVID-shortened 2020 season, then 10 in just 55 games in an injury-plagued 2021.

In 2022, Jimenez played 84 games, hit 16 homers and batted.295.

The next season, it was 120 games with 18 homers and a.272 average.

He started his fall off in 2024. In 98 games, he hit just six homers and batted.238.

Jimenez didn't play in the majors at all in 2025.

He's not a sure thing, but he's not that far removed from being a prodigious power bat.

It's a low-risk signing for the Blue Jays, one that actually has upside. Not a bad move on a Sunday night for Toronto.
