One of the biggest stories for the Toronto Blue Jays this offseason is whether they can retain Bo Bichette. He would love to stay, but with his skill set, there will be a ton of teams looking to see what they can do to add a slugging shortstop to their lineup.
Bichette is regarded as one of the best offensive shortstops in the game. Across 139 regular-season games, he hit.311/.357/.483 with 18 home runs and 94 runs batted in.
Outside of the Blue Jays, the Los Angeles Dodgers and Milwaukee Brewers have been tied to him. But it is still early in the offseason, and more teams can come and check in on him at any time.
Blue Jays retaining their star could leave this breakout slugger on the bench
Toronto will go into the offseason with a clear goal of retaining Bo Bichette. However, if they do, they will have some questions to answer in regard to next year's starting lineup.
Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter believes that if Bichette can return, that would leave Nathan Lukes with a spot on the bench.
"If the Blue Jays do end up re-signing Bo Bichette, they will need to figure out the best way to utilize Ernie Clement and Addison Barger who are both coming off breakout performances in 2025. If Barger ends up in the outfield, that could leave Nathan Lukes as the odd-man out with a healthy Anthony Santander also occupying a corner spot."
While Clement and Barger are coming off breakout performances, so is Luke. He was tremendous for the club during the postseason, hitting.274 and occupying left field.
However, you can never have too much depth. Luke's role could increase if any of the other outfielders go down with an injury.
