The Boston Red Sox continuing to hunt for another infield bat doesn’t just impact the rest of the market with Alex Bregman. Still, it puts the Toronto Blue Jays in a difficult spot as well, especially with Bo Bichette.
According to CBS Sports’ Mike Axisa, Boston, despite trading for Willson Contreras, is looking at options. One of them is Bichette.
“The Red Sox continue to pursue another bat for the infield even after trading for Willson Contreras, according to the Boston Globe. Among their targets are Cardinals super utility man Brendan Donovan, Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte, Astros third baseman Isaac Paredes, and free agents Bo Bichette and Alex Bregman. Bregman spent 2025 with Boston,” he wrote.
It’s tough to say Bichette is better than Bregman. Bregman is an elite defender and can really swing it. Bichette is a below-average defender and can really swing it. However, Bichette is younger, and if Bregman were to get $200-plus million, there’s reason to believe they’d rather just give Bichette the same price.
We also have to factor in the Red Sox doing this to hurt the Blue Jays in a sense. Regardless, though, it should play itself out as Boston and Toronto both look to do what they have to.
