The Kyle Tucker saga continues as Spring Training rapidly approaches, but the top free agent in baseball remains unsigned. There is still time left in the process, but it now seems likely that Tucker could opt for a shorter deal. However, he will not be returning to the Chicago Cubs.

“We'll see what happens. Don't know what the future is going to hold. If not, it's been an honor playing with all these guys and wish everyone best of luck whether it’s playing next year or not with them,” Tucker said at the end of the 2025 season.

Tucker was expected to secure a massive contract, but it now appears he will land a high AAV deal with a shorter term. SNY’s Anthony McCarron believes that Tucker is headed to the Toronto Blue Jays for one reason.

“Yes, Kyle Tucker gets his long-term deal and it’s with the Blue Jays. Why not? They’ve already had a huge winter and one more mega move could put them in a Dodgers-esque stratosphere. In all the chatter out there on Tucker, the Mets and Dodgers have profiled as teams looking to give him a shorter pact. Toronto’s been believed to have interest in a longer one. That’s the difference,” McCarron wrote.

The growing belief that Tucker will end up with the Blue Jays comes as reports suggest Bo Bichette is gaining serious traction to sign with the Philadelphia Phillies.

“Bichette/Phillies meeting is said to have gone very well fwiw. Bichette admires “first class” organization. Other pluses: roster, park, Mattinglys link, spring proximity to home. Would Phils need to deal Bohm, do lesser C than JT? Other Bo suitors: Jays, Red Sox, NYY, LAD, more,” MLB insider Jon Heyman posted.

Toronto is unlikely to miss out on both of its top free agency stars. Bichette’s potential return seems to have stalled, as the Blue Jays did not want to drag negotiations out any longer.

Tucker would be a massive addition for Toronto, strengthening the team for years to come. Losing out on both Tucker and Bichette would create a nightmare scenario for the Blue Jays this offseason.
