The Toronto Blue Jays put together one of the best all-time performances in the ALDS, as during Game 2, not only did they put together an offensive onslaught against the New York Yankees, but a rookie pitcher, in his fourth career MLB start, shut down a strong lineup.

Trey Yesavage, in his fourth Major League start, was on the hill for Game 2 of the ALDS. He finished the day with 5.1 innings pitched, no hits, no runs scored, one walk, and 11 strikeouts. It was one of the best postseason performances by a rookie, especially with it being just his fourth big-league start.

In the middle of the game, after Yesavage was pulled, Fox Sports MLB interviewed Yesavage's parents, Dave and Cheryl Yesavage, about their son's dominant performance against the Yankees. Cheryl expressed disbelief in her son's performance, especially with such a dominant outing coming against the Yankees.

"I was hoping he would do well, but I never expected this." Cheryl Yesavage said. "Especially against the Yankees!"

While there was plenty of promise with Yesavage after his first three regular-season outings, which ended with a 3.21 ERA and a 1-0 record across 14 innings with 16 strikeouts and seven walks, this performance was still stunning.

The Yankees, in the Wild Card series winner-takes-all matchup against the Boston Red Sox, got after Connelly Early, a rookie pitcher making his fifth big-league start against the Yankees in the playoffs. While Early struggled, thanks to some bad luck, Yesavage dominated the Yankees en route to a huge win.

Now, the Blue Jays are just one win away from moving on to the ALCS to face either the Detroit Tigers or the Seattle Mariners. While the offense, which put up 13 runs on 15 hits, was a huge reason for the win, Yesavage's performance was what helped put the Blue Jays up 12-0 after six innings.

This kind of performance by any pitcher would've been impressive. But for Yesavage to piece together such a performance in his first playoff start, and just his fourth start since being called up, is nothing short of incredible. What made it even better for the Yesavage family was that such a dominant outing came against the Yankees.

"Being that we're from Philadelphia," Cheryl Yesavage explained, "and we've been Phillies fans, and the Yankees have not been our top team, this is amazing. This is amazing! He did a great job."

Yesavage helped lead the Blue Jays to a dominant Game 2 win over the Yankees in the ALDS, putting Toronto on the doorstep of the ALCS. Yesavage's parents were in disbelief over their son's performance. Not that he performed well, but just how dominant he was in such a big spot so early in his career.
