Blue Jays' Max Scherzer, Giants' Justin Verlander get free agent updates from MLB insider image

Sometimes, the free agent updates put out on social media by MLB insiders are big deals.

Other times, they're what Jon Morosi posted on Monday morning about Toronto Blue Jays free agent Max Scherzer and San Francisco Giants free agent Justin Verlander.

This is what Morosi shared on X:

"Future Hall of Famers Justin Verlander, 43 next month, and Max Scherzer, 41, both remain unsigned. Verlander posted a 3.85 ERA for the Giants over 152 IP in ‘25. Scherzer had a 3.77 ERA in 3 postseason starts last year, including Game 7 of the World Series."

That works out to be some solid public relations work for the two pitchers.

Of course, no one in MLB is forgetting that there are two future Hall of Fame pitchers just hanging out in free agency.

It's not a simple task to sign them, though.

For one, they surely only want to join a contender. They also have the benefit of patience on their side. They could even sign a few months into the season and still make an impact.

At their age, there's no need to rush into a bad situation.

Teams also have no real idea when regression may start to finally hit in a way that is too overpowering for these legends of the game to overcome.

So for now, they wait.

The pitching market still has a lot of quality names in it, led by Framber Valdez. Maybe when the lefty potential ace Valdez signs, things will finally start to move a bit.
