The Toronto Blue Jays are getting set to take on the New York Yankees in a showdown in the ALDS. New York just beat Boston to advance, and Toronto is the AL's top seed, so they will get homefield advantage through the ALCS if they are to make.
Since the Red Sox are eliminated, they now have to start thinking about what roster moves they will make in the winter months, and that includes a huge decision on third baseman Alex Bregman.
Blue Jays linked to Alex Bregman
In a recent Bleacher Report article, the Toronto Blue Jays are listed as a team that could be in play for the Red Sox $120 million infielder:
"If the Blue Jays signed Bregman, he would take over at third base, allowing Ernie Clement to slide over to shortstop and serve as the successor to Bichette. Clement's best defensive position is probably third base, but he has also graded out very well at shortstop, so he could handle that spot on a more consistent basis if asked."
The top priority of the Blue Jays this offseason will be to sign Bo Bichette. But if he signs elsewhere, that leaves a big hole on the left side of the infield that they would have to fill.
Toronto has also shown the ability to make some big splashes and commit financially to players over the last few years. That started with Vladimir Guerrero Jr.'s massive $500 million extension, but a few of the Blue Jays starters are also locked down to extensions.
Bregman is still likely to re-sign with the Red Sox due to how much he seems to enjoy the organization, but don't count out another team that makes him an offer he can't refuse.
