The Toronto Blue Jays are in a Wild Card spot and battling for the top spot in the AL East.
With Toronto firmly in a playoff spot, the Blue Jays will likely be active ahead of the 2025 Major League Baseball trade deadline. Ahead of the deadline on July 31, Blue Jays’ general manager Ross Atkins spoke to the media and revealed what the team's plans are for the deadline.
“Probably on the run-prevention side more from a depth standpoint,” Atkins said. “If we can score more, we’ll look to do that. And adding a right-handed hitter to our team is something we’ve been trying to do internally, and we have considered external alternatives as well. The run-prevention side is probably going to come from pitching with how good our defense has been.”

A right-handed hitter is an obvious need for the Blue Jays as Toronto could use another middle-of-the-order bat with both Anthony Santander and Daulton Varsho being injured. Adding another bat would push everyone in the lineup down a spot and make Toronto that much harder to pitch against.
As for pitching, the Blue Jays could look to acquire bullpen arms or starters. Toronto could use another fourth or fifth starter to bolster the rotation, as well as adding more high-leverage relievers, despite Yimi Garcia and Ryan Burr nearly back from injury.
Toronto ended the month of June with a record of 46-38 and is two games back of the New York Yankees for the top spot in the AL East.
