The Toronto Blue Jays have been one of the more active teams in free agency this winter. They've already dished out well over $200 million in contracts, and they aren't expected to stop just yet.
With Kyle Tucker, Alex Bregman, and Bo Bichette all on the open market, the Blue Jays could get active once more for a top free agent.
However, a new rumor from ESPN's Jeff Passan is a concerning one for the Blue Jays' chances at signing one of those top free agents this offseason.
ESPN's Jeff Passan reveals concerning 'realistic' scenario for Blue Jays
"There are scenarios where they get none," Passan writes. "There are scenarios where they get one. There are scenarios where they get two. For example, if Bichette goes to Boston, Bregman to Arizona, and Tucker to the Dodgers -- all of which are possible."
This would be a complete disaster for the Blue Jays. To lose Bichette to a division rival, Bregman to the Arizona Diamondbacks, and Tucker to the hated Los Angeles Dodgers would be an abject disaster.
While Passan doesn't rule out the Blue Jays getting one or two of those top three free agents, the scenario where they don't land any of them is the most important part of this report.

The Blue Jays have the means to sign one of those players and should be able to beat out the competition in a weaker spending market this offseason.
But Passan is opening the door to a scenario where all three of these free agents choose to go elsewhere instead of Toronto.
This is a concerning report for the Blue Jays, as while there's still a decent chance that Toronto adds one of these top bats this winter, the chance for them to miss out on all three cannot be ruled out.
