Blue Jays bench coach walks away from Toronto but not from baseball image

Don Mattingly is reportedly moving on from the Toronto Blue Jays following a successful season, which saw the club win the AL East, win the ALCS for the first time since 1993, and almost come close to winning their first World Series in 32 years.

According to Jon Heyman of New York Post, Mattingly will not return as Blue Jays bench coach for the 2026 season.

Despite stepping away, it doesn't mean Mattingly is ready to call time on his baseball coaching career. He might be looking for a managerial role in 2026 and there are some openings for the 2026 season.

With the Blue Jays, the 64-year-old coach came close to winning his first career World Series with the Blue Jays. However, the club lost Game 7 against the Dodgers, despite leading for most of the game until the ninth inning, a game-tying home run from Miguel Rojas.

What's next for Blue Jays' ex-coach Jon Mattingly?

Don Mattingly joined the Blue Jays in November 2022 to support manager John Schneider and bring his veteran leadership to a locker room filled with stars of age and with immense potential. Though his stint may have eluded him of a World Series title, he walks away after registering a great season.

Teams looking to hire a manager this offseason must look at Mattingly's profile, boasting a six-time All‐Star and the 1985 AL MVP with the New York Yankees as a player and as a manager, posting a combined 889-950 record with the Dodgers (2011-15) and the Miami Marlins (2016-22).
