After winning the World Series during the 2023 season against the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Texas Rangers have struggled. They have failed to make the postseason the last two years, which has frustrated the fanbase.

Much of the core from the 2023 season has moved on, meaning this club has been transitioning. Fans are hoping this team can return to form, but their offseason moves have been questionable.

They lost Marcus Semien in a trade with the New York Mets, but received Brandon Nimmo in return. They also lost Jonah Heim, but signed Danny Jansen to split time with Kyle Higashioka at catcher.

Their biggest acquisitions came in the bullpen, striking deals with Alexis Diaz, Chris Martin, and Jakob Junis.

MLB analyst concerned over the Rangers' offseason direction

Playing in a division like the AL West, the Rangers need all the help they can get. The Seattle Mariners are coming off a great season, and they have made offseason moves to continue being a contender. And you can never count out the Houston Astros, even after a disappointing 2025 season.

For the Rangers, much of their hopes lie on Corey Seager being healthy all year. And with his rollercoaster of health issues over the year, this is concerning.

The Athletic's Chad Jennings is not entirely sold on what the Rangers have done this winter.

"Maybe the pieces fit a little better.— Nimmo and catcher Danny Jansen in place of Semien and Garcia — but it feels more like shuffling than anything. The Rangers signed some relievers, but their rotation lost Tyler Mahle and Patrick Corbin. Remember, this is the last non-Los Angeles Dodgers team to win the World Series."

Jennings believes the offseason moves feel like the team is shuffling the deck instead of getting any better. This team could come out and surprise many, but they would need a lot to go right for them to do so.
