On the Fourth of July, the St. Louis Cardinals traveled to Chicago to face the Chicago Cubs for a three-game series. Miles Mikolas was on the hill for game one of the series, and during his start, he made unfortunate Cardinals history.

According to Bob Nightengale on Twitter/X, Mikolas, after allowing six home runs in one game against the Cubs, set the record for most home runs allowed in a single start in Cardinals history.

In his start, Mikolas went four innings against the Cubs, allowing seven home runs, with all seven coming in the first three innings of the game. Of the 17 batters that came to the plate, six hit a home run off Mikolas.

His ERA coming into the game was 4.76, and after his disastrous first four innings, Mikolas was sitting at a 5.27 ERA. No other pitcher in team history did what Mikolas just did.

His six home runs allowed in one outing against the Cubs is tied for the most in Major League Baseball history. The last time a pitcher allowed six home runs in one outing was, ironically, Cubs pitcher Matt Swarmer in 2022 against the New York Yankees.

Coming into this start, his 17th of the year, Mikolas had nine home runs allowed. In just one outing, he's nearly doubled his season total. It's a disastrous outing from Mikolas, and amid the Cardinals' struggles lately, it's a tough blow as they're trying to get back into the playoff field.

It's quite unfortunate team history to set, especially coming off the Cardinals getting swept and shut out by the Pittsburgh Pirates. Mikolas has struggled this season, but is locked into the team barring a release as he has a full no-trade clause.
