The St. Louis Cardinals are now taking a step in a new direction. President of baseball operations John Mozeliak stepped down from the role at the end of the season, and Chaim Bloom officially took over the role on Tuesday.

Bloom has his work cut out for him as he steps into his new role. He is tasked with getting this organization up and running again. They have missed the postseason for the last three years, and the fan base is over the underwhelming teams being put on the field.

Luckily for Bloom, he and the rest of the MLB front offices have a chance to make upgrades over the winter in free agency. There will be numerous great options to make the St. Louis team better next season.

The Cardinals have been rumored to see what Sonny Gray could get on the trade market. If that is something the front office goes through with, it would be worth keeping an eye on Cincinnati Reds pitcher Zach Littell, who could be a great addition, via Redbird Rants' Josh Jacobs

"The Cardinals are going to need at least one or two arms this offseason who they can depend on to make starts for them. Littell will turn 30 in a few days, so he's not as old as other starters the Cardinals have targeted as stopgaps have been, and he honestly could still have a bright future ahead of him."

Littell will be a free agent when the season comes to an end. With his success over the years, he could prove to be a dependable arm every week if St. Louis decides to target him.
