The St. Louis Cardinals have reunited with a familiar face.
They've signed catcher Yohel Pozo to a new contract to keep him around for the 2026 MLB season, according to beat reporter Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Pozo is a 28-year old who set career bests with both 68 games and 188 plate appearances during the 2025 season.
He hit.231 with a.375 slugging percentage, although he did show a knack for pinch-hitting.
In his MLB career, Pozo has batted.248 with six home runs in 245 plate appearances.
He's been a much better hitter in his Triple-A career at.321 with a.525 slugging percentage.
Pozo is also a pretty quality defensive catcher, which is something you want in a guy who projects at best as a backup.
The Cardinals have catchers likely ahead of Pozo. Ivan Herrera, Jimmy Crooks and even Pedro Pages are also in the MLB catching picture.
Pozo has minor league options that can be used, so he'll be a flexible option for the Cardinals to move up and down from Triple-A Memphis if they want.
St. Louis has lots more to do this offseason. They may trade away a veteran or two as they look to head into a new era.
But at least they know they've got more than enough catchers to choose from.
