The St. Louis Cardinals aren't likely to make the postseason in 2025, but that doesn't mean the team won't try to make a push in the final month of the year.

Despite sitting 7.5 games back, the Cardinals still might bring a player like Nolan Arenado off the injured list. Even with the games no longer mattering, Arenado could get into the lineup during the final month of the regular season.

John Denton of MLB.com shared Oli Marmol's latest update on Arenado, who is still recovering from a shoulder injury. Marmol revealed that Arenado will undergo more tests to determine timing for a rehab assignment and potential return to the Majors.

Arenado Gets Important Update Amid Recovery

"STLCards third baseman Nolan Arenado," Denton writes, "who has been working in Jupiter, will return to St. Louis in the coming days to have his right shoulder examined by team doctors, manager Oli Marmol said. Then, a determination will be made about a rehab assignment and a possible MLB return."

This update from Marmol is a good sign that Areando is working towards a return to the MLB roster. While the examination of his shoulder needs to go well, it's an important first step for the future Hall of Famer to return to action.

Even though the Cardinals might not be in the postseason hunt this year, Arenado could still return to the team before the year comes to a close. Based on this report, both Arenado and the Cardinals believe such a return is possible.

Of course, the status of Arenado's further examination is imperative for his return to action. If it all looks good, then the Cardinals' 10-time Gold Glove third baseman could return to close out what could be his final season in St. Louis.

Before hitting the injury list, Arenado was in the middle of one of his worst offensive seasons. He's hitting .235 with 10 home runs and 43 RBIs with a .660 OPS. It's never been below .700 during his Cardinals tenure before now.

He last played for St. Louis on July 30th, and while there was speculation over a return from the injured list in mid-August, that date has passed, and he's still uncertain to suit up for the Cardinals again this season.

With the potential for an offseason trade, the Cardinals' third baseman might've played his final game in a Cardinals uniform. But for now, Arenado is set to undergo a new test to determine where he is in his recovery from a shoulder issue, which has kept him out for over a month.
