The St. Louis Cardinals will head into the offseason looking to make some upgrades. They will have Chaim Bloom taking over as the tema's newest president of baseball operations, and he has a lot on his hands.
The fanbase is over the underwhelming teams the front office has put together over the last few years. They have made their voices heard as Busch Stadium is experiencing record-low attendance this year.
Luckily for Bloom, he will have the opportunity to make his club better over the offseason. There are plenty of big-time free agents who will be looking for new contracts, like Kyle Tucker, Kyle Schwarber, and Framber Valdez, and others who have opt-out decisions to make.
Cardinals could take a chance on high-risk, high-reward outfielder in free agency
One player who could be on the open market this winter is Chicago White Sox slugger Luis Robert Jr. The South Siders have a club option, which could make him available in free agency, and Sports Illustrated's Zach Pressnell believes St. Louis should pull the trigger if that happens.
"If the Cardinals could land him on a one or two-year deal with club options and incentives worked into it, they would be in a very good spot. At his best, Robert is a potential 40/40 hitter with Gold Glove-level outfield defense. At his worst, he's unplayable. That's a risk the Cardinals can afford as they enter their long rebuild."
Robert could be a great addition to the Cardinals' roster. However, his injury history is something that cannot be overlooked. He has dealt with numerous injuries throughout the last few years that have decreased his potential and star status among other outfielders.
