The St. Louis Cardinals are going to be entering a very important offseason after another dissapointing season out of contention.

Once the season concludes, the Cardinals will be shifting the president of baseball operations duties to former Boston Red Sox executive Chaim Bloom. Once Bloom takes over, he will be in charge of the decision-making process in regards to player personnel.

After another down season for a prominent National League club, there is surely going to be a shakeup, whether it be in the form of losing players to free agency or trades.

Improving the farm system is a top priority

According to Cardinals reporter Katie Woo, St. Louis may take the approach of upgrading their minor league system. Woo already indicated that the Cardinals may not be competitive in 2026, so it's a good opportunity to do the best they can in terms of trading for prospects and allowing them to develop in the organization's farm system.

"The boring but true answer: It will take multiple years for fans to truly see the changes in the minor-league system reflect at the major-league level. But that doesn’t mean expansive change isn’t taking place. The Cardinals’ spring training complex is (at long last) undergoing a complete renovation and is expected to see major facility upgrades."

Chaim Bloom was responsible for the drafting and development of the Red Sox's big three prospects, who are 'no pun intended' starting to bloom and come into their own.

Woo also indicated in the NY Times mailbag that the Cardinals are playing a game of catch-up, especially in terms of minor league resources, and Bloom will be essential in that process.

St. Louis has many notable stars already gaining traction in the trade market, including Nolan Arenado, Wilson Contreras, and Sonny Gray. Will Bloom move all three? It wouldn't surprise anyone if the front office is really trying to build up that farm.
