The Seattle Mariners have bolstered their batting order against left-handed pitching.

On Monday, the Mariners announced that they had signed Refsnyder to a one-year deal.

Refsnyder is an outfielder whose two most prominent MLB stretches have come with the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox.

He has also played MLB games for the Minnesota Twins, Tampa Bay Rays, Toronto Blue Jays and Texas Rangers.

Most recently, Refsnyder played for the Red Sox from 2022-25.

The biggest skill Refsnyder has is his ability to hit left-handed pitching.

In his MLB career, Refsnyder has hit.281 against lefties with an.826 OPS (that compares to.229 and.633 against righties).

Refsnyder has hit 22 home runs against lefties in the majors, double the amount he has hit against righties even though he has done it in fewer at bats.

Refsnyder also sees the ball much better, working one walk for every 1.5 strikeouts against lefties but only one walk for every three strikeouts against righties.

The Mariners have a deep lineup already, so Refsnyder is really a luxury addition. He can just slot in during the matchups that are good for him.

He has played right field and left field in recent years, although younger Refsnyder had infield experience, too.

Refsnyder is 34 years old now, and it's a chance for him to join a pennant contender in the American League.
