Mariners' offseason plan after Josh Naylor signing revealed by insider image

The Seattle Mariners are one of the teams many around baseball expect to be active this winter. They've already made one move, signing Josh Naylro to a long-term extension as the first move of the offseason.

But that's far from the only move Seattle is going to make this offseason. The Mariners have a next step for their offseason plan, and it was revealed by Adam Jude of The Seattle Times.

After spending big money on Naylor early in the offseason, the Mariners front office is shifting gears from the lineup to the bullpen, as relievers are next on the Seattle offseason wish list.

Mariners' offseason plans revealed by insider

"In re-signing Josh Naylor to one of the largest free-agent contracts in club history, the Mariners fulfilled their No. 1 priority early in the offseason," Jude reports. "Next on their wish list: two proven relief pitchers to fortify the bullpen."

Seattle has a clear desire to improve the bullpen, and there are plenty of interesting names available on the market by way of free agency or trade.

With Andres Munoz sticking around for $7 million in 2026, the Mariners don't need to go after a top closer. Instead, they can focus on other relievers to round out their bullpen this offseason.

In looking for pitchers, there's a clear need between a right-hander and a left-hander for the Mariners. Between the two, the Mariners are in clear need of more left-handed pitching.

"The Mariners are prioritizing the addition of another left-handed reliever to complement Gabe Speier," Jude writes, "who made a career-high 76 appearances in the regular season this year (and then seven more in the playoffs)."

Seattle doesn't need to add an elite talent like Edwin Diaz or Robert Suarez, but a free agent like Holby Milner, or a trade target like Philadelphia Phillies' Matt Strahm would be quality additions to the Mariners' bullpen.

Jude's report makes it clear: the Mariners' next offseason target is acquiring multiple relievers, and ideally, a left-handed throwing bullpen arm.
