If you were picking someone on the 2025 edition of the Seattle Mariners to make franchise history by hitting two home runs in a playoff game, there are a lot of candidates.
Cal Raleigh. Julio Rodriguez. Eugenio Suarez. Josh Naylor. Randy Arozarena.
But it wasn't any of them who did that on Sunday.
It was Jorge Polanco.
Polanco homered twice from the right side of the plate off of Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal, giving Seattle a 2-0 lead that turned into a 3-2 victory to even the ALDS at a game apiece.
In the process, Polanco joined a short list in franchise history.
He's the fourth Mariners player to hit two home runs in a playoff game, according to the Mariners PR team.

The other three: Ken Griffey Jr., Edgar Martinez and Jay Buhner.
Those are three of the most renowned hitters and sluggers in the history of the franchise.
Amazingly the multi-homer games by Griffey, Martinez and Buhner all came in 1995.
Maybe, just maybe, that means this Polanco success is foreshadowing more to come.
If that trio could do it in '95, maybe Polanco is going to get more company soon.
After all, there's a whole list of great home run hitters on this Mariners team. Why not join in on the party?
