Mariners' Eugenio Suarez bids apparent farewell to Seattle as free agency looms image

Sometimes words do say it all.

That appears to be the case with Seattle Mariners pending free agent Eugenio Suarez.

The power-hitting righty slugger spoke to reporters after the Mariners' season-ending loss in Game 7 of the ALCS, and it doesn't sound like he thinks he'll be back in the Pacific Northwest.

“It is tough, because you do your best for your team and you want to keep going,” Suárez told MLB.com. “But it is what it is. It's a business. And just now, my mentality is go home and enjoy my family.”

Suarez spoke some more about family in his answers, too.

“It’s going to [hurt] for a long time, but it's time to go home, start the rest,” Suárez said. “It's time to prepare yourself for next year -- be a dad, be a husband and be a good person outside, too.”

MLB.com's Daniel Kramer wrote that Josh Naylor is more likely to get signed to a new contract than Suarez.

The Mariners may use top prospect Colt Emerson at third base when he's ready for a call up. They've also got Ben Williamson still capable of doing a good job at the hot corner, too.

Suarez is on his way to turning 35, and he had an OPS below.700 after joining the Mariners at the trade deadline.

He did hit a career-high 49 home runs in 2025, so surely there will be interest in Suarez in free agency.

That interest just might not come from Seattle.
