Mariners' Cal Raleigh breaks Babe Ruth, Roger Maris other home run record in AL history books image

Cal Raleigh hit another home run.

The Seattle Mariners' catcher won't celebrate this one much, given that it came in a one-sided defeat in Game 3 of the ALCS to the Toronto Blue Jays. Seattle still leads 2-1, but there's still plenty of work to do.

This home run was significant in an understated sort of way.

When combining regular season (60) and postseason (3), Raleigh now has 63 home runs in the 2025 campaign.

That's significant because it's the second-most homers ever hit, combined, in an American League season.

Babe Ruth, when he hit 60 home runs in the 1927 regular season, and then Roger Maris with his 61 in the 1961 season, both ended with a regular season and postseason combined total of 62 home runs, according to MLB.com.

Raleigh, now at 63, trails just Aaron Judge. When Judge hit his 62 home runs in 2022 to break the Maris record, he added two playoff homers to get to a combined total of 64.

There's still time for Raleigh to eclipse that mark, too.

The Mariners, at minimum, will play three more games. If they win two, then they go to the World Series and get four more. And they can't be knocked out right now unless Toronto wins three more.

That gives Raleigh ample time to continue his slugging ways.

The Mariners would certainly love to see Raleigh launch a few more home runs, especially in closer games, to try and push them to their first-ever appearance in a World Series.
