The Seattle Mariners matched up against the Detroit Tigers on Friday for the all-important Game 5 of the ALDS. It was a win-or-go-home situation for both clubs, and both came out swinging.
Both teams' pitching staffs were on point, as there was not much scoring involved in the game. Seattle got out to an early 1-0 lead, but Detroit responded by taking the lead in the sixth inning.
By the seventh inning, Seattle came back to tie the game, and scoring would be halted for quite a while. The game would go into the 15th inning before Seattle walked the game off, thanks to a Jorge Polanco RBI single to right field, clinching the series.
Mariners announce starting pitcher for Game 1 of ALCS vs Blue Jays
The Mariners will have Saturday off before getting back to it for Game 1 of the ALCS against the Toronto Blue Jays. It is a quick turnaround, but Seattle is ready for it.
They have announced their starting pitcher for Sunday's matchup. According to Seattle Sports' Shane Drayer, Bryce Miller will be handed the ball against Toronto on the road.
Miller's last start came on Wednesday in Game 4 of the ALDS against the Tigers. He only lasted 4.2 innings, giving up two runs on four hits while striking out two batters.
He is hopeful this start will be much better, but he has quite a challenge ahead of him. This Toronto offense has been cruising during the postseason thus far, so Miller will have to be at the top of his game to find success up north.
