The Seattle Mariners have such an impressive assortment of pitchers.

One of them has a new dollar amount attached to his name.

Thursday was the final day for teams to reach contract agreements with players eligible for salary arbitration. If terms weren't reached, the team and player would have to go to the oftentimes contentious arbitration process itself.

The Mariners avoided that trouble with George Kirby, the All-Star right-handed pitcher.

They'll pay Kirby $6.55 million for the 2026 MLB season, according to insider Robert Murray.

Kirby has pitched in parts of four seasons for the Mariners now.

His All-Star campaign was 2023, when he had a 3.35 ERA.

His ERA was 3.53 in 2024.

It rose to 4.21 in 2025 as injuries limited Kirby to 23 starts and 126 innings.

Before that, he'd been as reliable as they come for Seattle.

Kirby did have his best strikeout season in 2025, punching out 9.8 batters per nine innings. His walks per nine was the highest it has been, too, at 2.1.

Kirby is joined in the rotation by the likes of Logan Gilbert, Bryan Woo and Luis Castillo. It's a bunch that would love to get the Mariners over the hump and finally into the franchise's first-ever World Series appearance.

Gilbert is up for arbitration, too, and a year deeper into the contract process than Kirby, so he will likely get an even better payday.

And then when the season arrives, the Mariners will try to build off of last season's impressive run to Game 7 of the ALCS.
