The guys whose names start with 'J' beat the Toronto Blue Jays.

That was the fun theme for the Seattle Mariners in Monday night's ALCS Game 2.

Julio Rodriguez hit a three-run home run for a 3-0 lead.

Jorge Polanco hit a three-run home run for a 6-3 lead.

And Josh Naylor blasted a two-run shot of his own to expand the advantage en route to a 2-0 series lead.

Mariners' communications guy Alex Mayer had some fun sharing a few tidbits with his social media audience on X.

A few of those, via Mayer:

  • The J home runs came against the Jays
  • J is the 10th letter in the alphabet, and the Mariners scored 10 runs
  • Julio became the first Mariner with a 3-run HR in the ALCS since Jay Buhner

The only negative of the whole thing is that J.P. Crawford didn't get in on the home run fun. Maybe he'll be due for one in Game 3.

But otherwise, it was a celebratory night for the Mariners on the road. To take both road games to start the ALCS with a 2-0 lead is quite the accomplishment.

Seattle will host the next three games, and the Mariners will have a legitimate chance to close the series out without even flying back to Toronto.

There's still a ton of work to do, of course. But if the Js continue to outdo the Jays, the Mariners will be just fine.
